- I looked down into the dark cold water, realizing that there was no other choice but to jump. I could hear the pounding footsteps getting closer and closer. If I waited much longer I knew I would be caught. I closed my eyes and thought to myself "It will be okay. It's your only option." I opened my eyes looked down into the pitch black water. I squeezed my eyes shut and jumped over the edge into the water below. I felt weightless as I fell through the air. I imagined that this must be how a leaf feels when it falls to the ground. I felt a rush of cold run through my body as I finally reached my destination.
- It was over. I collapsed to the ground, despair and disappointment washing over me like a tidal wave. My last game as a senior, and we had lost. One of my teammates walked over and gave me a pat on the back, but all the condolences in the world wouldn't be able to fix how I felt. My tears blurred my vision as I reached down to unstrap my keeper gloves. I couldn't bear to keep them on, as it was a reminder of my own failure to myself, and my team. With my hands shaking, I brushed the grass knowing that this was the last time I would be on this field. My heart twisted in my chest as my hand came into contact with the field that had become my second home for the last four years.
